What an EXCITING first day of school we had! One my kids will NEVER forget....
Darren started 6th grade, which is Jr. High where we live. Yikes!
Blake & Ryan started 2nd grade and they were thrilled!
We started our morning with their favorite breakfast treat, French Toast Casserole!
I packed them extra special surprise lunches.
They picked out their FAVORITE new school outfits.
Donned their new tennis shoes.
Had family prayer.
They couldn't wait to see all their friends again and meet their new teachers.
We hopped in the van and headed for school!
***That's when it all went awry!!
We were heading down Campus Park, when a lady left her stop sign early and tried to turn left in front of me. She never looked left before turning across all lanes of traffic and never saw me coming. I smacked right into the left front side of her car. It was clearly her fault as I had the right of way, but what a nightmare! Luckily, all the kids were held safe by their seat-belts. They all have scratches and bruises on their necks and/or chests from the seat belts. I have burns & cuts on my arm from the airbag, and other bruises on my hand, feet, knee, chest, hips, and very sore neck and shoulder. It hurts to hold up or turn my head. I have to go to physical therapy. Yuck. My car is officially a total loss which I'm glad for. I wouldn't want to put my family back in that car after what it went through. Many passers by stopped to help. The fire dept. came and when I called Jason his fire truck came as well. It was quite a scene. Men in yellow everywhere! After the reports were given and the dust settled, the fire trucks gave us rides home (so cool for the kids). A neighbor took Darren to school so he wouldn't be late. The other kids and myself got checked out by our doctors and the boys made it to school just in time for lunch with their friends. What a way to start the school year!
We are so grateful the Lord watched over and protected us! This could have had a much worse outcome. We are thankful! We have had many prayers, calls, meals, babysitting, etc. from friends and loved ones! We thank you all for your offers of support. It's such a scary thing and your love and concern has helped us through! Thank you!!
My poor little van.

I can't tell you how my heart sank when I came upon this lovely scene. At that exact moment I was wondering why I hadn't seen you at school dropping off the boys. I had wondered if you had just rushed off to get Darren to Mesa. Then I saw the car and my heart just stopped. I am so glad that everyone is ok and pray that you heal quickly! Please let me know if I can do anything at all to help in anyway.
Ugh, sounds all too familiar. Someone ran a red light in front of Barry a year ago, and his truck was totaled, flipped, etc.
I'm glad you guys aren't injured too much worse. Like I've said to you the past few days we've spoken, anything I can do! Let me know!
Yikes! I'm so glad you guys are OK. What a nightmare!
Nicole I really can't even tell you how much this scared me. I am so relieved that you are all o.k. I won't share the "what if" thoughts that went through my head as you were telling me this story. Just know that I love you and I am so happy that you have so many great friends around to take care of you. Happy car shopping ;-)
Oh my gosh, that is so scary! I'm so glad you guys are okay. It sounds like your boys rebounded pretty quickly. I hope all the insurance stuff goes smoothly :)
I'm so glad you are all okay. Happy Birthday! I love that you see the good in all of it. New car, memorable first day of school, fire engine rides...it's fabulous!
Hellooooo....are you guys okay? How scary!!! Ever since I had my accident 2 years ago I still get freaked out on the freeway. Accidents are no fun! It sounds like you got some really bad "wip flash". At least a new car gets to come of this horrible event.
What a bummer! When Maggie called to tell me I was in shock! I am soooo glad you are all ok. Still stinks that you have to deal with it all though! Love ya!
can we say, oops! I was waiting for my mom at a bridal shower the other day and THEY got rearended in UTAH, and not in their own car! They had borrowed my dad's best friends car for the weekend, so they wouldn't have to drive my dad's big truck up to Bear Lake (almost Idaho) and on the way to the shower they got rear ended, BUT this i bad oh my heck! My last accident was in 2004 someone ran astop sign and I totaled David's truck, I don't think I will EVER live that down,at least until we can afford to buy him another truck :( I hope everyone heals well and QUICKLY our prayers are with you, what a horrible first thing to see when I opened you blog my heart goes out to you! Love you,Michelle :)
Sounded like such a great start on their first school day,... until... such a scary experience! WOW, those pictures made me cringe. I was just so thankful to hear your voice and understand everyone was well enough to be all right. You were definitely blessed and watched out for. Know we love you, your family and are here for you!!!
Oh my goodness Nicole that is so scary! I can't believe how bad your car looks! I'm so glad you guys are okay! At least it's cool that your hubby got to come to the rescue scene and the kids got to ride on firetrucks. Hope physical therapy goes well and that you recover quickly!
OH MY GOSH.....I am so sorry this happened to you. Sorry for all the pain you are going through, but I am glad you are still all with us. Love you guys!!!! Lisa
So scary! I'm so glad you and the kids and the other lady are ok! And yay for a new car!
Nicole, you need to know that my Sam has been praying for you - "and please bless Sister Hansen to get better from her accident." Every prayer since your accident, up until two days ago when I told him that Heavenly Father heard his prayers and you are feeling better. That night his prayer went like this: "and we're so thankful Sister Hansen is feeling better.." He does like to pray for everyone he knows...for the longest time he has been saying, "I'm so thankful Katelyn (Ustach) decided to get baptised. Please help her not to sin."
Sam makes me smile.
Oh, Laura!! Thanks for sharing that! What a little sweetheart!! Yes, assure Sam his prayers were answered and I'm feeling much better. I'll be sure to give him a big hug next time I see him!
